Where a grocery store loses money
Four zones that account for most of it
Aisles, checkouts, the cool chain and the dock. Cover those four properly and the rest of the store is a rounding error.
- 01 Aisle head coverage Follow a person across the store instead of losing them behind a gondola.
- 02 Checkout & self-serve Framed on hands and scan area, with transaction overlay where the POS supports it.
- 03 Cool room & freezer Door-ajar and temperature sensors on the alarm, access control on the door.
- 04 Loading dock Inside and outside the roller door, plus the personnel entry beside it.
Night fill
Arm the money while the shop floor is still working
Every supermarket has the same weak hour: the crew is stocking shelves, the alarm is off because it has to be, and the cash office, the cool store and the dock are all sitting inside the same unarmed building.
A partitioned commercial panel fixes that. The shop floor disarms for night fill while the office, cash room, cool store and dock each stay armed on their own zone. Individual user codes mean the arming log doubles as a record of who was in the building and when — which has resolved more disputes for our clients than the cameras have.

Deterrence
Being seen is cheaper than being recorded
Recorded footage is what you use after the fact. A public view monitor at the entry and again at the high-value aisle is what stops the walk-out before it starts, because the person sees themselves on a screen the moment they consider it.
Paired with visible camera placement at the aisle heads and clear signage, it shifts opportunistic theft to somebody else's store. That is not a moral victory, but it is a measurable one.
- Entry monitorsThe most cost-effective deterrent in grocery retail.
- High-value aislesA second screen where the shrinkage actually concentrates.
- Visible placementCameras positioned to be seen, not hidden in a ceiling void.
- Active deterrenceOptional light and audio warnings on the dock and rear yard.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions we get asked most. If yours isn't here, call us on 0433 633 777 — you'll speak to a technician, not a call centre.
How many cameras does a supermarket need?
For a typical independent supermarket of 800 to 1,500 square metres we usually land between 24 and 40 cameras: every aisle head, each checkout and self-serve bank, the service desk, both sides of the dock, the cool room and freezer doors, the office and the cash room. Aisle-head cameras are what let you follow a person across the store rather than losing them behind a gondola.
What protects the cool room and freezer?
Two separate problems. For theft, a camera on the door and access control that logs entry. For stock loss, door-ajar sensors and temperature monitoring wired into the alarm so an open freezer door at 2am wakes someone up. A single warm night in a freezer costs more than the sensors that would have caught it.
Can the alarm stay on while night fill is working?
Yes, and this is where commercial panels earn their money. The site is partitioned so the shop floor can be disarmed for night fill while the office, cash room, cool store and dock stay armed independently. Each crew member gets their own code, so the arming and disarming record tells you exactly who was in the building.
How do you cover self-serve checkouts?
One camera per bank framed on the scan area and bagging zone, at an angle that shows the item and the hands, plus an overhead on the exit path. Where the point-of-sale system supports it, we overlay transaction data on the footage so you can search for a specific void or non-scan rather than scrubbing through hours of video.
What happens at the loading dock?
The dock is the highest-value target in most supermarkets and the least watched. We cover the roller door from inside and out, the pallet staging area, and the personnel door beside it, with door sensors on the alarm and access control on the staff entry. Deliveries and dispatch both get recorded, which settles a lot of supplier disputes on its own.
Do you service the big brands or independents?
Both. We work with independent supermarkets, IGA-style grocers, food retailers and ethnic grocery stores across the south-east and eastern suburbs. Independent operators tend to get the least attention from national installers, which is a large part of why they come to us.
Will the cameras cope with the lighting?
Supermarket lighting is bright and even, which is easy — until you point a camera at a glass shopfront during the day or a dark dock at night. Those positions get cameras chosen for wide dynamic range and low light specifically. Using one camera model across an entire store is the most common reason half the footage is unusable.
Can I get alerts when something happens after hours?
Yes. Alarm events go to a graded control room and, if you want them, to your phone. Camera analytics can add a line-crossing alert on the dock or the roof access after close, so a person on site at 1am triggers a look rather than a discovery the next morning.
