How much should a commercial CCTV system cost?
For a straightforward four to eight camera commercial system expect roughly $2,500 to $7,000 installed, depending on camera type, cable run difficulty, recorder storage and whether you want AI analytics. Sites needing poles, fibre links or 20-plus cameras are quoted individually. Be suspicious of anyone quoting a fixed price before they have seen the site.
Is alarm monitoring worth the monthly fee?
If the site holds stock, equipment or data worth more than a few thousand dollars, yes. An unmonitored alarm only makes noise. A monitored alarm puts a graded response in motion within seconds and creates the event log insurers ask for. Most commercial plans sit in the $35–$70 per month range.
How long is CCTV footage kept?
It depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate and recorder storage. We normally design for 30 days, which covers the typical gap between an incident happening and someone noticing. Many systems we audit are silently retaining four or five days because storage was never sized properly.
Can I view my cameras on my phone?
Yes, on every system we install. Remote viewing and playback works over 4G or Wi-Fi, and we set up the accounts, permissions and notifications during commissioning rather than emailing you an app link and wishing you luck.
Will a new alarm work with my existing sensors?
Often, yes — hardwired detectors in good condition can usually be reused with a new panel, which saves significant cabling cost. Wireless sensors are typically brand-locked. We assess this during the audit and tell you what is worth keeping.
What causes false alarms, and can you fix them?
Almost always placement and configuration: sensors pointed at heaters or roller doors, pets in armed zones, poor entry-exit timing, or ageing detectors. It is fixable, and it is one of the most common problems our audits find. A system nobody arms is worth nothing.
Do I need an electrician as well?
Usually not. Security and data cabling is extra-low-voltage work our licensed technicians handle. If your job needs new GPOs, switchboard work or mains power to a pole, we coordinate a licensed electrician so you still deal with one company.
How disruptive is an installation?
Less than most people expect. We work around trading hours where needed, run cabling through ceiling and wall cavities rather than surface ducting wherever possible, and clean as we go. Retail and hospitality jobs are commonly done after close or before open.
