Common faults

What we get called out for most

Cameras offline or black

PoE switch failures, water ingress, damaged cabling, IP conflicts after a network change, or a camera simply at end of life.

Nothing recorded

Failed surveillance hard drives, storage never configured for retention, or channels quietly disabled during a previous service.

Constant false alarms

Detectors aimed at heat or movement sources, pets in armed zones, ageing sensors and bad entry-exit timing.

Doors not releasing

Failed mag locks and strikes, worn door closers, controller faults, or credentials that stopped working after a software change.

Intercom dead or crackling

Power supply failure, water in an external station, damaged riser cabling and failed internal handsets.

Locked out of your own system

Previous installer gone, no passwords, no documentation. We recover access and hand the credentials to you.

Our approach

Diagnose first, quote second

The easy money in this industry is telling everyone their system is obsolete. We would rather find the actual fault, tell you what it costs to fix, and let you decide.

Every repair visit starts with a proper diagnosis — cabling, power, network, storage and configuration — because replacing a camera that was fine will not help if the switch port is the problem. You get a written summary of what we found and what we did.

  • Repair before replaceIf it can be fixed economically, that is the quote you get.

  • You keep the credentialsPasswords and documentation handed to you, not held over you.
  • Optional plan afterwardsMove onto scheduled maintenance so it does not happen again.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we get asked most. If yours isn't here, call us on 0433 633 777 — you'll speak to a technician, not a call centre.

Will you work on a system another company installed?

Yes — it is a large part of what we do. We service most major platforms including Hikvision, Dahua, Hanwha Wisenet, Axis, Vivotek, March Networks, Genetec, Inner Range, Tecom, Bosch, Aiphone and Comelit. We are not interested in forcing a full replacement when a repair will do.

How much does a repair call cost?

A standard call-out plus labour, quoted up front before we attend, with parts on top if required. Most single-fault repairs — a failed camera, a dead power supply, a detector past its life — are resolved in one visit. Contracted maintenance clients get discounted rates and priority booking.

My cameras stopped recording. What usually causes it?

Most commonly a failed surveillance hard drive, which dies silently and takes your footage with it. Also common: a failed PoE switch or power supply, a network change that broke camera addressing, and storage that filled because retention was never configured. We check drive health as standard.

Do you repair NVRs and DVRs?

Yes. Failed hard drives, recorders that will not boot, corrupted firmware, channels showing "no video", lost passwords and storage that fills in days instead of weeks. We replace drives with surveillance-rated ones, recover access where possible and set retention properly. Alarm faults? See alarm repairs.

The previous installer has disappeared and I have no passwords.

Common, and usually solvable. On most platforms we can regain administrative access through a documented recovery process — occasionally a panel needs a factory default and reprogram, which we quote before proceeding. Once we are in, you get the credentials, not us.

Is it worth repairing an old system?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If cabling is sound and cameras are recent, upgrading the recorder or a few cameras is far cheaper than a rebuild. If you are running analogue cameras on failing coax, replacement usually wins. We will tell you which situation you are in.

How fast can you attend?

Contracted clients get priority, typically same or next business day, with 24/7 attendance for critical faults. Most other commercial and retail CCTV faults are attended same or next business day across Melbourne.

Can you take over monitoring too?

Usually. If the panel supports a modern IP or cellular communicator we can move monitoring across after a compatibility check. Tell us the panel make and model and we will confirm quickly.
